The Department of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Strasbourg was founded in 1960 and has four posts (1PR, 2 MCF, 1 Lecturer). Around 700 students are associated with the Department, taking courses in language, translation, literature, civilization and linguistics. The Department, either on its own or in cooperation with other Departments at the University, offers courses for students on all three cycles – Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD - as well as the University Diploma. There are many opportunities for cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary study, as well as for mobility for students and teachers. Training in Modern Greek offers career opportunities in translation, interpreting, European institutions, banking, culture and tourism, as well as in teaching and research.

The Department has a library devoted entirely to Modern Greek Studies, with around 5.500 books, mainly in literature, but also in linguistics and history, as well as dictionaries, encyclopedias, journals and newspapers. The Department subscribes to scientific journals, and its holdings are regularly updated.
